Mmm, good food and company. Carl, bless his heart, eats most anything – as long as it's vegetarian. Today I made, and we savored:

- vegetarian borsch, and I am thankful to have spoken with my mother about it, because I wouldn't have remembered the cauliflower on my own;
- potato cakes, with dill and feta and chives, which tasted as good as they usually do, but were much more fragile... in fact, I dare say they were lumps of something nondescript instead of "cakes" – but still excellent!;
- fried-up eggplant circles, in sunflower oil, this time without the really strong crushed-garlic-salt-pepper-water sauce I usually serve with them; and
- ratatouille, which was mushier than usual but very tasty indeed.

There was good chocolate too, of course.

Classes start tomorrow for most of the university, and on Friday for me, so it will be months before I have the chance to cook four different dishes in one evening. This was satisfying, and the hanging out with much laughter was cheerfully satisfying too. The more I think about things, the more thankful I am for my friends, without whom I would not feel nearly this well recharged after a month of depressing thought patterns and feeling overwhelmed with hurt. All of the contact I've gotten has been a salve, a reassurance, and just fun as well.

One of said friends is leaving, and (sexy though he is) I won't be moving to San Francisco – or probably never permanently. I'll miss him this much, but he'll be at home there. It's just one of those things. Hmm, San Francisco visiting... mmm.

Thanks to Carl Barks, I'm never able to forget what aubergine means. I find it alternately funny and sad that a noticeable percentage of my knowledge comes from Donald Duck et al comics.

The Boston Museum of Fine Arts presents Films of Tom Tykwer (http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?journal=syarzhuk&itemid=116716) (most known as the director of Run Lola Run). We're planning a "kul'tpohod" on 30th - with, at the very least, [livejournal.com profile] irrra, [livejournal.com profile] ge_m, myself and my wife present. Wanna join us? Transportation from and to Providence is not a problem :)

Wow, that looks pretty good. Would I have to commit and get tickets in advance, or can this be a last-minute thing? If the former, unfortunately I will have to pass: there's an ungodly amount of work to do, as the semester is just starting. But if for some reason I find myself satisfied with the amount of work I've done by that afternoon, I could get in touch and jump on the bandwagon. :)

Having an ungodly amount of work to do is just that... ungodly that is.
That's fine with me however I have to warn you - Tykwer is only appearing in person on 30th so I'd expect a LOT of ppl coming on that day. So you'll have to call and double-check if seats are still available.
