Oh, now this is appropriate.

Yay.

In other news, Lukács isn't as much of an ornery bastard as I previously thought. I still (tentatively, until I can gather up enough evidence) disagree with him on some things, but some of the statements he makes do have a lot of sense. One thing I am sure of is that I am very glad to not be a philosopher. If I were, I'd have to write long treatises involving neologisms and high-falutin' language, in essence intellectually jacking off for pages and pages, saying in many words what could be put more succinctly and putting my reader to sleep.

Oh, wait.

Dude, I was making fun of myself here.

Dude, I was aware. Dig?
In any case, just wait until you get onto Wittgenstein. To continue the (rather picturesque, if I may say so) metaphor, intellectually he doesn't appear ever to have touched his penis or even formed a vague concept of its existence, but he nonetheless necessitated a vast amount of intellectual Kleenex.

What precisely are you reading by Lukacs?

Ooops - forgot to respond to this - Theory of the Novel, as the preceding post (http://www.livejournal.com/talkread.bml?journal=veek&itemid=26973) in my journal states.

Also, I've abandoned it for a little bit, until I'm done with a certain paper. I find this book thoroughly enh.
