Boggle.

Is anyone reading this familiar with Georg Lukács, specifically his The Theory of the Novel?

He talks about the epic in there, and - I must be thinking in the wrong direction or something, because everything he's saying is ringing patently untrue. One potential problem is that all I know from the epic genre are Song of Roland, some (not a lot) of The Odyssey, and odds and ends from Eastern Europe.

If you'd like to discuss, e-mail me or (if you don't have the address) comment on this entry. I'd appreciate either finding out what it is I'm missing, or a reassurance that I'm not completely insane.

Georg Lukacs used to be pretty good but his recent stuff like this isn't that great.

I mean, have you seen Phantom Menace?

I wish you'd brought this up at the party last night! I read this last semester for a class. Well, frankly, I got about 40 pages into it, hurled it across the room, and attempted to eradicate it from my existance. I really, really loathed this.

Well, then I'm glad I didn't bring it up at the party! Doesn't seem like a very good conversation piece, if it's so loathsome. :)

Oh, something to rant about is always fun at a party!

Heh. Well, sometimes.
