Taken verbatim from some e-mail sent to a friend.

Talked to (my advisor) yesterday. We have tentatively established some deadlines. My prelims should in theory (provided the rest of the committee is ok with this) take place during reading week, which means second-ish week of May. More urgently, I must have upwards of 40 pages of theory written (as a first draft) between now and the end of the month.

Eeeeep.

Funny thing is, I am not stressing. I know I'll do it. I might lose sleep, but am confident of having 40 pages' worth of Stuff in my head.

...

Less than 2 pages a day? Not a problem! Uh, until I remember that besides the theory essay, I am doing the following:

-two graduate-level courses
-[work Web site] maintenance
-[H.] (a new web-based scholarly journal) set-up
-paper reviewing for a conference (during Feb)
-paper giving at another conference (also this month)
-annotating a bibliography (also part of prelims)
-encoding a 700-page literary text, saturated with Stuff To Encode (goal is 25 pages per week... ha.)
-and maaaybe some sleep & food

...

Minor aside: I've been atrociously unproductive Sunday-Tuesday. (Today is much better.) Why? Because, I am now convinced, it was new moon. I actually wondered about that – and tonight looked up, and there it was, a thin sliver of a crescent. I am routinely in a good, hyper, productively active state at full moon. It checks out.
