I hate it when I am inarticulate in Important Conversations, don't get my meaning across, and - worse - end up (probably) getting quite a different meaning across than what I'd meant.

Then come away from conversation frustrated with not having been able to make Person believe, not really, what a magnificent human being he is.

sorry, but...

...having been subjected to quite a few Important Conversations, I have to say that the worst torture for a he-type human being is being made believe he is magnificent, primarily so because the main Implication of such belief is some kind of Responsibility and Obligation, both of which we bastards thoroughly avoid. You might have been TOO articulate and he may not have liked the meaning...

erm.

I think you may have misunderstood the type of Important Conversation. The fact that he happens to be a he-type is irrelevant in this case. Sometimes he doesn't see his own strength and beauty behind something small gone wrong (or even perceived wrong!), and that bothers me.

On a different note, that's some generalization about men you've written. We may not operate on the same assumptions.

I may. The irrelevance of being a he has been the most popular point of so many conversations recently, I think I should wear a button saying I'M NOT A SEXIST.
However, I tend to ascribe my own inability to see my own strength and beauty to the fact that I am too masculine. This is the only assumption I'm operating on in this case, and of course, it can be wrong.

I dunno. Speaking for myself, I believe that I would feel very uncomfortable being called a magnificent human being. Because I'm not. Perhaps he also is not a magnificent human being, and is frustrated that you can't see this.

Thinking a person wonderful does not equate to oblivion regarding their negative face[t]s.

Also, my most basic assumption about people is that they are inherently good, powerful beings. It's gotten me disappointed sometimes, but I am not willing to change approach. In the case of Person specifically, I will not be disappointed.

Oh, and -- I never once called him magnificent in the course of said Important Conversation.
