What I liked was the time constraint.
Name fifty things you like, in twenty minutes. More difficult than it looks. Instead of sticking to 50 things, I stuck to 20 minutes.
I like:
0. forcing myself to write without capitalization: it is very much not default.
1. juicy, crisp, unwaxed apples. gala, or somesuch.
2. unafraid touch.
3. blueberries when i'm feeling down.
4. my brother.
5. my nephew.
6. my sister-in-law, while i'm at it. (this isn't cheating. all of them occurred to me separately.)
7. the feeling of accomplishment when i've finished a task i didn't feel like doing.
8. sunny warm breezy days.
9. walking on the cliffs in newport, ri.
10. oceans. (pacific is very different from atlantic.)
11. walking to school instead of driving, with my walkman, and singing. the reactions from passers-by are amusing.
12. great wine - but not unless i'm sharing it.
13. playing a nylon-string acoustic guitar.
14. listening to any masterful guitar playing, in a genre i like (so countryish fast fingerpicking is awright, but not my thing.)
15. the feel of my black trench coat, silky-velvety, which invites touch.
16. the birthday card
moominmolly gave me. on the front: pukey-adorable wittle kitten in a flower pot. inside caption: "for your birthday, i grew you a cat." best. caption. ever.
17. tall, old buildings towering around me as i gawk at them while traveling.
18. the cool of old stone staircases, especially in churches and monasteries.
19. lush viney greenery plastering itself over building walls.
20. faces of my friends, lit by the sun and laughing unselfconsciously.
21. making crepes with the little electric crepe maker my mom gave me. it's fun.
22. unrefined sunflower oil.
23. picasso. including his more obscure, less abstract stuff.
24. huuuuge, quiet museums. quiet.
25. sitting in the first upstairs seat of a london red bus. especially one of the new ones, with hyooge front windows.
26. the mosaics inside moscow's metro stations.
27. speaking french to the french (at which i'm terrible), and having them appreciate the effort, or at least not snark, which they oddly never do.
28. dark chocolate, preferably in soft silky form, like truffles or the inside of a chocolate mouse.
29. cooking for others, while they socialize with me and then eat with abandon.
30. swimming in a river, sea or ocean, and letting the waves carry me. lakes make me nervous, unless they're the size of lake michigan.
31. flowers in my home, especially ones that have a strong scent.
32. visiting another city and getting to stay in a hotel. (it's more *fun* staying with friends. but it's a *treat* in a hotel.)
33. remembering my dreams, especially when they're things unlikely to happen in real life -- like last night, when someone i have a mild crush on (but he doesn't know, nor does he live anywhere close) stayed at my house (in my dream!) and kissed me goodnight.
34. cotton throws.
35. making my mind see color spectra and notice things about cloth and paintings that it normally doesn't notice.
