Mmm, guitar.

And violin, too.

Here. (.ram)

In general, Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt are great. They collaborated on this piece, but did their own thing on others - and the results are beautiful, unconventional jazz.

While we're on the subject of mmmm, check out this woodcut.

Django and Stephane. Yum.

Working in that idom these days, I point you at
http://www.stephanewrembel.com - I came across him in Harvard Sq. a couple of weeks ago. Very good.

I also point you at http://www.jsprecords.com - producers of finely remastered old jazz sets at amazingly affordable prices, including 9 discs of Django in 2 boxes for about $45 total.

Hmmm.

I was all excited about Stephane Wrembel - and then heard the music! It's... good technically, but fast - and all three of the sample songs have exactly the same oompa-oompa undercurrent. It didn't really work for me on Minor Swing; I think Django and S.Grappelli get the rhythm (slower) better; and Dark Eyes as anything but sultry... They're choices, and they even work for any given song, but the whole of it sounds a bit too similar to itself.

JSP Records - wistful sigh! Perhaps when I can afford to spend $45 on CDs, I'll get that set. Thanks!
