Why do people disregard it? Get on their high horse, even, if it's ever pointed out to them that they regularly 'mispel' words. This is why I don't do it anymore. But it still irritates me.
It especially irritates me when the people in question write a lot, and/or have aspirations to be writers. How can you love writing so much you want to do it for a living (it's not like there are huge monetary compensations in store), but disregard the beauty of language to such a degree?
