Dinner and coffee this evening with Riddler. We'd exchanged a few e-mails since our abrupt hiatus, friendly e-mails trying to re-establish some sort of anything meaningful in the way of friendship. I was pleased when he e-mailed me a couple of days ago, saying he'd be in town today and would I like to get together in the evening. Was great, it was; we laughed a lot, talked for a couple of hours straight, caught up on each other's recent lives, talked about books and movies, and it was easy. There was a bit of unspoken awkwardness somewhere in the back of our minds - to be expected - but it dissipated quickly, and we ate Chinese food, walked around Leicester Square, drank coffee at a pub where they didn't know how to operate the machine, poor things.
We aren't likely to see each other again this summer, since between us we'll be traveling to something like five or six countries from now until the time I go back to the States. If I make it to Edinburgh for the festival, that will be fun. I'd like to think that we will cross paths at some point or other, though, and it will be good when we do.
He hugs exceptionally well. We mean a lot to each other. That's good to know.
